Thelma Sanctuary

About us

Who we are

mother & child
We are a team of change-makers who believe that every helping hand can raise a child and create a better future for them.
Thelma’s Sanctuary is a supportive and confidential haven dedicated to empowering women and children who have experienced abuse or trauma. We believe that everyone deserves to live a life free from fear, and our mission is to provide the critical resources, emotional support, and tools needed to transition from crisis to stability and long-term self-sufficiency. Beyond offering immediate safety, we are a community focused on healing and growth. We recognize that recovery is a journey, and we support every member of the family through specialized programs for women and engaging, age-appropriate activities for children and teens. We are more than just a shelter; we are a sanctuary where new beginnings are nurtured, and futures are rebuilt with confidence and hope.
Goals and Mission

The mission of Thelma’s Sanctuary is to provide a comprehensive, holistic, and secure environment that promotes the immediate safety, emotional healing, and enduring empowerment of abused women and their children. We are committed to fostering a supportive community where survivors can access the tools and confidence necessary to build independent, healthy, and fulfilling lives.

  • Our Core Goals
Immediate Safety & Shelter: To provide immediate, confidential, and temporary housing in a safe environment, ensuring the physical and emotional security of every resident.
  • Holistic Healing: To offer comprehensive therapeutic and supportive services—including counseling, group support, and creative outlets—that address the deep-seated trauma experienced by survivors.
  • Empowerment Through Education: To equip women with the life, vocational, and financial skills needed to achieve self-sufficiency and economic independence.
  • Child Nurturing & Development: To ensure children and teens (up to age 16) have access to structured learning, positive social experiences, and emotional support to heal from trauma and continue their academic and personal development.
  • Community Reintegration: To connect residents with long-term community resources, helping them successfully transition out of the Sanctuary and establish stable, permanent lives.
